How it started
Benjamin studied hard-rock mining engineering at McGill and worked in the field before a breakup led him to buy a camera to photograph stars. He fell in love with photography, left his day job and became a commercial photographer.
Finding a purpose
His imaginative fire photography and behind-the-scenes work helped him build an early online following. Around 2015 or 2016, he began focusing on social and environmental issues, eventually moving toward the large installations he creates with collaborators and communities.
Art that starts conversations
His projects range from a mermaid photographed among 10,000 borrowed plastic bottles to towering sculptures placed near international environmental negotiations. He often uses familiar images to make abstract problems easier to see.
