How it started.
Camila grew up in Virginópolis, Brazil, and moved to the United States with family at 14. A job at a makeup counter at 18 helped turn a childhood love of beauty into work as a makeup artist. In 2010, Camila started posting makeup tutorials on YouTube.
Finding an audience.
The early videos were made for friends and family, but reached a much wider audience. Portuguese and English content opened the door to fashion weeks, campaigns and collaborations. In 2018, Camila collaborated with Lancôme on a product line.
Making something of their own.
Camila launched Camila Coelho Collection with Revolve in 2019, then founded beauty brand Elaluz in 2020. In interviews, Camila describes designing clothes they want to wear and making beauty essentials rather than a sprawling range.
Sharing more of the story.
Camila has also spoken publicly about living with epilepsy since childhood. In an NIH MedlinePlus interview, they described how sharing that experience brought messages from others with epilepsy and helped build a sense of connection.
