Originally from Phoenix, Codie studied journalism at Arizona State University and reported on life along the U.S.–Mexico border. She later moved into finance, working at Vanguard, Goldman Sachs, State Street and First Trust.
Finding her audience.
Codie began the Contrarian Thinking newsletter in 2020 to share ideas about money and business ownership. In an early interview, she described wanting to bring other people into the world of buying businesses after years spent investing for herself.
The everyday businesses.
Her work centers on companies people use close to home, including laundromats, car washes and home services. She owns Main Street Holding Company and Contrarian Thinking Capital alongside her media work. Fans can follow the same interests through her videos, newsletter and BigDeal conversations.
From buying to building.
Her first book, Main Street Millionaire, became a New York Times bestseller. In 2026 she followed it with Own or Be Owned, turning her attention to the systems that help a business operate without its owner handling every decision.
