Learning by doing.
Neil started Advice Monkey, a job board inspired by Monster.com. After disappointing experiences with marketing firms, they taught themselves internet marketing to bring people to the site.
An unexpected opening.
A speech about search engines at Cypress Community College led to a consulting job with Elpac Electronics. Referrals brought more clients, and Neil went on to co-found Crazy Egg and KISSmetrics.
Sharing the lessons.
Neil began Marketing School with Eric Siu in July 2016 and co-wrote Hustle that year. They co-founded NP Digital in 2017. In 2020, SEO Unlocked turned their teaching into a free seven-week course with videos and homework.
