YouTubeHow it started.
Raised in a musical family in Fairport, New York, Rick played cello and double bass before finding the guitar. Studies at Ithaca College and New England Conservatory led into teaching at Ithaca and, later, a move into record production in Atlanta.
Before the camera.
Rick established Black Dog Sound Studios in 1995 and worked across songwriting, engineering, mixing and production. A songwriting credit fans may recognize is Parmalee’s “Carolina,” co-written with the band and a country radio number one in 2013.
Finding an audience.
A 2015 video of son Dylan’s perfect pitch brought questions from musicians who wanted to train their ears. Rick began making lessons in response. The channel grew to include song breakdowns and artist conversations, while courses such as The Beato Book Interactive and the Ear Training Method offer more structured study.
