Mini bio

Early uploads.

Chad’s route into YouTube began with a school project: an unofficial music video for Lemon Demon’s Bad Idea, uploaded in 2006. Vlogging followed, before he moved to the OMGchad channel in 2009, according to the Mindcrack community’s documented history.

Building OMGcraft.

Chad says he started playing Minecraft during its Alpha days. In July 2012, he and friends created OMGcraft as a long show covering one big topic at a time. Its growth caught the attention of TWiT’s Leo Laporte and Lisa Kentzell. In his April 2013 announcement, Chad described a shift toward shorter tips, spotlights and deeper courses.

Behind the camera, then on stage.

At TWiT, Chad produced This Week in Tech, This Week in Google and MacBreak Weekly, alongside hosting and reviewing. He joined the Mindcrack server in October 2014. Minecraft introduced him as a MINECON Earth co-host in 2018, and PlayWorks announced an OMGcraft Roku channel in January 2020.

What fans can follow now.

OMGcraft remains his home for Minecraft tutorials, while The Giz Wiz pairs him with Dick DeBartolo for gadget demonstrations and viewer contributions. Recent episodes include Chad trying a portable carpet cleaner, storage organizers, a wireless charger and a cable-management tray.

  2. His red hair began with a spontaneous dye session at a friend’s house in 2011. Nuclear Red was the bottle available.
  3. He kept fan letters and artwork in a binder that he would revisit when feeling discouraged.
  4. One early Minecraft project was a redstone railway with 16 destinations, which took him more than two weeks to learn to build.
