Mini bio
Finding her way.
Melissa first studied chemistry with dentistry in mind. She became a dental assistant in high school, but her own struggles with chemistry eventually led her toward teaching. In college she worked as a tutor, a math department receptionist, and a tutor and scribe for the disability office.
From coffee shops to YouTube.
After graduating in 2015, she became a full-time private math and chemistry tutor. As demand grew, she wanted to reach more students and started her YouTube channel in 2017. Selection for YouTube NextUp in 2018 helped her improve her production skills, and that summer she stepped away from full-time private tutoring to focus on videos and resources.
Learning together.
In her 2022 YouTube interview, Melissa described making lessons for students trying to pass their classes and reach their chosen careers. That year she introduced her organic chemistry course, Chemmunity. Her resources now span video lessons, guided study sessions, ebooks, and practice materials.
