Mini bio
From Jamaica to London.
Born Anthony Paul Moo-Young in Port Antonio, Mooji moved to England in 1970 at sixteen. Before teaching satsang, he drew charcoal and pastel portraits on London’s streets and worked as an art teacher in Brixton.
A change of direction.
His official biography traces his spiritual search to a 1987 encounter with Michael, a Christian mystic. On his first journey to India in 1993, he met Papaji in Lucknow and also visited Ramana Maharshi’s ashram.
From a market stall to satsang.
Back in Brixton, he sold incense and later ran a Saturday chai stall outside Brixton Wholefoods. Visitors began asking about consciousness and inner peace, and small gatherings followed in his flat. These conversations grew into the satsangs he now shares with an international audience.
A home in Portugal.
In 2011 he moved from Brixton to Portugal’s Alentejo region, where Monte Sahaja developed into a retreat centre. Fans can follow his question-and-answer gatherings and meditations through the free Mooji TV library, with further recordings on Sahaja Express.
