Sean Lew

How it started.

Growing up in Walnut, California, Sean followed his older sisters into dance. He began classes at four, competed at five, and started choreographing at ten. His first professional dance job was on Glee at eight. In 2013, a video of him dancing to Lady Gaga’s “Applause” brought his work to a much wider audience.

Finding a partner.

After competing in World of Dance’s first season with a group, Sean was approached about returning as a soloist. He called Kaycee Rice instead. Their hip-hop fusion duo reached the Junior division finals in 2018, with Sean creating their choreography. Their partnership also runs through his 2019 False Confidence video, danced to Noah Kahan’s song.

Making his own films.

Sean’s 2021 film II: An Unspoken Narrative uses dance to explore balance and life’s contrasting experiences. He wrote, directed, produced, edited, performed, and shared choreography duties on it. His music-video work includes choreographing and dancing Justin Bieber’s At Least for Now, then co-directing Jackson Wang’s Cheetah with Wang and creating its choreography.

Beyond the dance floor.

On television, Sean played Chris De La Rosa in The Cleaning Lady. Cooking is another part of his life: he won Chopped Junior in 2016 and has described making elaborate birthday cakes for friends. He also teaches internationally, with classes centered on storytelling through movement.
