Mini bio
How it started.
Before becoming a therapist, Shane taught high school English in Washington, DC, and Japan. He finished his marriage and family therapy program in 2011, worked in community mental health and opened his private practice in early 2014. In a later interview with Jason Polk, he described wanting to understand his own struggles as part of what drew him to the work.
From the therapy room to your feed.
The Couples Therapist Couch launched in September 2017, giving therapists a place to learn from conversations about relationships. Shane says he created the podcast and Inner Circle community to offer the training and support he had wanted when starting out. His wider online audience grew after he joined TikTok in May 2020, sharing short videos about feelings, gratitude and unhelpful relationship habits.
What he shares now.
His work brings together interviews, relationship videos and education for other therapists. A certified Relational Life Therapist mentored by Terry Real, he also has training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman approach. Alongside the podcast, his 2026 Blueprint program teaches therapists how to offer couples intensives.
