Mini bio
How it started.
Raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Furtick felt called to lead a church in a major city at 16 after reading Jim Cymbala’s Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire. Before starting Elevation, he worked as a worship leader at Christ Covenant Church in Shelby, North Carolina.
Building Elevation.
In 2006, he moved to Charlotte with seven other families to start Elevation Church. Its first service took place on February 5. The ministry later reached listeners beyond its campuses through online sermons, television, and Elevation Worship’s music.
Books and songs.
His 2014 bestseller Crash the Chatterbox brought his teaching about insecurity and negative thoughts into book form. Do the New You followed in 2024, with Do the True You adapting its ideas for younger readers in 2026. Alongside his preaching, he writes worship songs and is a member of Sons of Sunday.
