Mini bio

How it started.

Born in Calgary, Tate grew up with a dance teacher for a mother and spent part of childhood living in Oman. Dance came first: competitions took Tate across North America, and a third-place finish on So You Think You Can Dance in 2016 brought a wider audience.

A song from the bedroom.

In 2017, when a dance video was not possible, Tate uploaded an original song called “One Day” to YouTube instead. The simple performance found an audience and helped turn a channel for dance into a home for songwriting too. In an early i-D interview, Tate described writing songs in a bedroom before learning how to bring them into recording studios.

Finding a bigger sound.

“you broke me first” became a breakout in 2020. The debut album i used to think i could fly followed in 2022, then THINK LATER in 2023. That second album reached No. 4 on the Billboard album chart and included “greedy,” a No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200.

From videos to arenas.

So Close To What debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2025. The Miss Possessive Arena Tour brought the music to Latin America, Europe, the UK and North America; the label reported more than 80 dates and a million tickets sold. In 2026, Tate added the fragrance TATE 01 and returned with “Housewife.”
