Mini bio
How it started.
Tayleb grew up in Mooroolbark and joined Yarra Ranges Little Athletics after trying swimming, karate, ballet and gymnastics. An early fall put him off hurdles, but watching his older sister Lateisha succeed drew him back. He went on to win a state hurdles title at under-12 level.
Finding his stride.
A five-time Australian junior champion, he finished fifth at the 2022 World U20 Championships despite breaking a toe six weeks before the meet. Moving into senior hurdles proved harder. After a disappointing 2023 nationals, he rebuilt his approach with Kyle Vander-Kuyp and Sam Leslie, with John Steffensen as a mentor.
The breakthrough.
In 2024 he won the Oceania 110m hurdles title, lowered his personal best to 13.44 seconds in Canada and made his Olympic debut in Paris. Alongside racing, his TikTok audience grew past 600,000, and fans could follow his training and Olympic preparations online.
The comeback.
On his Australian Sports Foundation fundraising page, Tayleb says a February 2025 hamstring injury required surgery. He describes returning to overseas racing four and a half months later and raising support for travel, training and recovery as he works toward further international competition.
