Mini bio
How it started.
Thomas grew up around country music through their father, Rhett Akins, and sometimes played drums during the encore of their dad’s shows. College fraternity gigs helped turn that early experience into a career. A publishing deal with EMI followed in February 2010, then a recording deal with The Valory Music Co.
Finding their voice.
Before the spotlight, Thomas landed a co-write on Jason Aldean’s 2010 album My Kinda Party with “I Ain’t Ready to Quit.” The 2013 debut album It Goes Like This introduced the singer to a wider audience. “Die a Happy Man,” written about wife Lauren Akins, became a crossover breakthrough in 2015 and won CMA Single of the Year in 2016.
Songs from real life.
Life Changes drew on marriage and parenthood and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2017. The music mixes country storytelling with pop melodies and R&B grooves. Center Point Road followed in 2019; both albums earned Grammy nominations for Best Country Album.
The latest chapter.
About A Woman arrived in 2024, followed by expanded editions and collaborations with Teddy Swims and Niall Horan. In 2026, Thomas released music with Marshmello and announced the Soundtrack to Life Tour, before unveiling a label partnership with Blue Highway Records in October.
