Mini bio

How it started.

Tony grew up skating in San Diego after his older brother handed him a used board at nine. Sessions at Oasis Skatepark led to amateur contest wins and a professional career at 14.

Making a life in skating.

He became a vert world champion for 12 consecutive years. When skateboarding’s business slowed in the early 1990s, he refinanced his house to help launch Birdhouse rather than leave the sport.

The year everything connected.

In 1999, Tony landed the first 900 at the X Games in San Francisco and teamed with Activision on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Fans could watch him make skating history, then pick up a controller and try his tricks themselves.

Keeping the doors open.

His work now spans demos, games, and The Skatepark Project. In his 2025 Here & Now interview, he explained that skateparks gave him lifelong friendships, and that helping other kids find that connection is his proudest work. He also co-hosted Hawk vs Wolf with Jason Ellis from 2021 to 2025.
