Mini bio
How it started.
Above & Beyond formed in London in 2000. Their first project together was a Chakra remix. Tony McGuinness recalled that they needed a name before sending it in, and found one on a printout from a motivational speaker’s website. Anjunabeats also began in 2000 as an outlet for their productions.
The remix that opened doors.
Their 2001 remix of Madonna’s “What It Feels Like for a Girl” became the backing for her music video. McGuinness says the Madonna work led to an Ayumi Hamasaki remix and an invitation to DJ in Japan. He bought decks and learned ahead of the trip.
Songs fans carry with them.
Their debut album Tri-State arrived in 2006. Group Therapy followed in 2011 with “Sun & Moon,” “Thing Called Love” and “Alchemy.” Common Ground reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2018. Their weekly Group Therapy radio show keeps fans connected to the music and the wider Anjuna label family.
Beyond the dancefloor.
Acoustic reworked their songs with orchestral arrangements in 2014. Flow State explored ambient music in 2019, growing out of a spontaneous yoga set with Elena Brower at Burning Man in 2014. In July 2025, Bigger Than All Of Us brought them back to a full electronic artist album after seven years, with collaborators including Zoë Johnston, Richard Bedford and Justine Suissa.
