Mini bio

How it started.

Agnes grew up in Copenhagen and began playing piano as a child. Her musician mother played Bartók and Chopin, and Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson became another early influence. Those different musical worlds helped shape her own approach.

The first records.

Her 2010 debut Philharmonics brought together instrumentals and quiet, piano-led songs. Agnes wrote, performed and produced the record herself, apart from its John Cale cover. It became a breakthrough in Denmark and won five Danish Music Awards in 2011. Aventine followed in 2013, expanding her work with piano and strings.

Building a sound.

Citizen of Glass arrived in 2016 with vintage synthesizers and manipulated vocals, and won IMPALA’s European Independent Album of the Year award. For Myopia in 2020, she again worked in her Berlin home studio, treating production as part of the songs’ storytelling.

A new beginning.

Released in September 2026, The Meaning of Flowers grew from her experience of pregnancy and motherhood. Dedicated to her daughter, it brings poetry and philosophy into songs about birth, change and connection. Agnes wrote, recorded, arranged and produced it in Berlin, with guest musicians adding strings, percussion and other instruments.

Trivia

  1. Some of her percussion starts with a shoe hitting the floor or a pen tapping a desk, as she explained to Women In Pop.
  2. She told Women In Pop she would like to study neuroscience if she were not making music.
  3. She listens through demos and voice memos on flights, keeping a notebook for ideas, according to her Broadsheet interview.
  4. The title Citizen of Glass comes from the German idea of the gläserner Bürger, a person made transparent to the state, as she explained in IMPALA’s award announcement.
