Mini bio

How it started.

Twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle founded Architects in Brighton in 2004. Their debut album, Nightmares, arrived in 2006. Sam Carter joined around the turn of 2007, and 2009’s Hollow Crown became their breakthrough.

Finding a way forward.

Tom Searle died in 2016 after living with cancer. The band continued, with Carter later describing their first shows without him as an important step in learning they could carry on. Holy Hell followed in 2018.

A wider stage.

For Those That Wish to Exist gave Architects their first UK No. 1 album in 2021. They have also taken their music into unusual settings, including a Royal Albert Hall livestream and an orchestral performance at Abbey Road Studios.

Where they are now.

The band’s 2025 album The Sky, The Earth & All Between credits Dan Searle on drums, Sam Carter on vocals, Alex “Ali” Dean on bass and Adam Christianson on guitar. In September 2026 they followed it with “Machine,” written by Searle and Carter and produced by Searle.
