Mini bio

How it started.

B Young grew up in Hackney and began writing music at about 12. In their PAUSE interview, they recalled trying the microphone their brother had brought home and moving from grime into singing. Dancehall, rap, R&B and Afrobeats heard around the neighbourhood all fed into their sound.

Finding their sound.

Before becoming known as a recording artist, B Young worked as a sound engineer. “Been Wavey” brought early attention in 2017, followed by the breakthrough of “Jumanji.” Official Charts records its UK singles peak at No. 13 and the follow-up “079ME” at No. 23.

Keeping it personal.

In a 2018 Music Week interview, B Young described making music alone in their room and relying on a team of school friends for advice. Their debut album Differences arrived in 2021. ESC followed in November 2024, with nine tracks including “AURA,” “MISSED CALLS” and “SOBER.”
