Mini bio

How it started.

Jillian Banks began writing songs as a teenager after a friend gave them a keyboard. Music became a way to express feelings that were hard to say aloud. They later studied psychology at USC, an interest that connects with the attention to human relationships in their songwriting.

Finding an audience.

In 2013, “Before I Ever Met You” spread from a private SoundCloud page to BBC Radio 1, where Zane Lowe played it. The Fall Over and London EPs followed, along with a support slot on The Weeknd’s tour. Goddess arrived in 2014, bringing together songs such as “Waiting Game,” “Drowning” and “Beggin For Thread.”

A growing body of work.

The Altar, III and Serpentina followed the debut. For Off With Her Head in 2025, BANKS returned to collaborators from the Goddess years while making room for guests including Doechii and Sampha. In interviews, they described the title as a way of letting go of negative thoughts and becoming more present.
