Mini bio
How it started.
Bobby grew up reading for hours at East Ham Library with his brothers. After banking and accountancy, he discovered how much he enjoyed training graduates at PwC and decided to become a teacher.
The quiz that changed things.
He captained Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in the 2016–17 University Challenge series, reaching the semi-final against Eric Monkman’s Wolfson team. Their friendship continued into a quiz book and the BBC Two series Monkman & Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain.
Maths in everyday life.
His book The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers connects maths with ordinary life through personal stories and puzzles. With Susan Okereke, he co-hosts Maths Appeal, which returned in autumn 2026 with a Pearson partnership and conversations for maths educators.
A place for everyone to learn.
Bobby also campaigns for public libraries. His work was recognised with an MBE in the 2026 New Year Honours. As a National Numeracy ambassador, he helps children and adults feel more confident using numbers.
