Mini bio

How it started.

Brothers Matt and Brad Shultz began playing music in high school with Jared Champion and Daniel Tichenor. Cage the Elephant formed in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2006 and moved to London in 2008 before releasing their self-titled debut.

Finding their audience.

“Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” brought the debut to listeners on both sides of the Atlantic. Thank You, Happy Birthday followed in 2011 and entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2, while “Shake Me Down” topped the Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts.

Records to spend time with.

Melophobia arrived in 2013, followed by Tell Me I’m Pretty in 2015 and Social Cues in 2019. The latter two won Best Rock Album Grammys. The band also revisited its songs on Unpeeled, a live project with stripped-down arrangements, strings and choir.

What they’re making now.

Neon Pill arrived in 2024. In 2026 the band signed with Big Loud Rock and released “Beaches in Tennessee,” produced by Justin Raisen and SADPONY, followed by “Dying in Reverse.” Matt Shultz directed the new single’s visualizer.
