Mini bio

How it started.

Weezer formed in Los Angeles in 1992 with Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Matt Sharp and Jason Cropper. Early studio recordings helped them secure a Geffen deal in 1993. Brian Bell joined during the making of their debut; Scott Shriner became their bassist in 2001.

The songs fans found.

Their 1994 debut, the Blue Album, broke through with “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.” Ric Ocasek produced the album, and Spike Jonze’s “Buddy Holly” video placed the band inside Happy Days. Pinkerton followed in 1996; its initially difficult reception gave way to a devoted following.

Room to experiment.

The Green Album brought “Hash Pipe” and “Island in the Sun” in 2001. Later, a fan campaign helped prompt their 2018 cover of Toto’s “Africa.” They followed it with the Teal Album’s collection of covers, recorded OK Human with a 38-piece orchestra, and explored the seasons through SZNZ.

Still making things together.

The 2026 Gold Album brought the band together with producers Kenneth Blume and Klas Åhlund. In an interview, Cuomo described a more collaborative approach to lyrics and arrangements, with his bandmates helping decide what belonged on the record.
