Mini bio

How it started.

Hanes’s path began in Oregon, where his friend Roy Roth encouraged him to try bowhunting. In his own remembrance of Roth, he describes their early hunts as a shared pursuit built on big dreams and friendly competition. Hunting elk in difficult country gave him a reason to build his stamina and strength.

Finding his voice.

Before his podcast and books reached a wider audience, he wrote hunting articles and worked on Eastman’s Bowhunting Journal. His first book, Bowhunting Trophy Blacktail, came out in 1999. He built that writing career while also working a day job and raising a family.

Beyond the hunting world.

His first Joe Rogan Experience appearance aired in February 2014. Endure followed in 2022 and became a New York Times bestseller. In 2023, he launched Keep Hammering Collective, bringing athletes and other guests into conversations about the work behind their achievements.

What fans follow now.

His work connects bowhunting, running, strength training and long conversations. Undeniable, published in 2025, draws lessons from people he has trained with and interviewed. Alongside those interviews, his channel shares hunting films and accounts of endurance races, including the setbacks.
