Mini bio

How it started.

Eric Hansen and Aman Hambleton built Chessbrah around a shared love of fast chess. Aman recalls Eric streaming from their Netherlands apartment basement in 2014. After returning to Canada, Aman started streaming regularly in 2015.

Finding their audience.

They treated chess streams as entertainment as well as instruction. Aman shifted his focus to content after earning his grandmaster title in 2018. A Times Square billboard later marked the channel reaching 300,000 YouTube subscribers.

A place to learn.

Building Habits gives beginners rules they can use in their own games. The original series began in 2021, and a second edition arrived in 2025. Their opening series teach through practical games at successive rating levels.

Beyond the stream.

Both hosts also commentate major events. In 2026 they joined the London Speed Chess Championship broadcast team and appeared in the chess program at MIT Sloan’s Sports Analytics Conference.
