Mini bio

How it started.

Raised in Columbus, Doobie grew up hearing both rock and hip-hop. Childhood poems became songs, and by high school they were learning beat-making and recording other artists. A studio encounter with DJ Hylyte grew into a lasting working relationship. The Wrapper traces the early releases to the 2013 single “Ink Me” and the 2015 mixtape Cocaine Christmvs.

The song that opened doors.

The self-produced “When the Drugs Don’t Work” arrived in 2017. In a Nashville.com interview, Doobie recalled being stranded on the West Coast after a tour cancellation, staying in Los Angeles and watching the video’s views suddenly climb. Its success became the turning point in their independent career. Albums including Faithfully Faded and the self-titled Doobie followed.

Making room for rock.

Rock was part of the story from the beginning. Doobie names Alice in Chains, Metallica and KISS among their influences, alongside rappers such as Kevin Gates and Tech N9ne. “Early Bird Gets the Whiskey” began the full rock chapter in November 2024. The 2025 album Give ’Em Hell Until You Get to Heaven followed, with Andrew Baylis producing and collaborations with Jonny Hawkins and Yelawolf.

Writing honestly.

Doobie describes music as a way to share personal experiences and help listeners feel understood. In interviews, they have discussed recovery and the challenge of finding a new creative direction after quitting hard drugs. Working with other writers also became part of the process, including Conor Matthews on “Worth a Shot” and “Early Bird Gets the Whiskey.”
