Mini bio
How it started.
Mary studied medicine at University College London, also earning a first-class degree in immunology. She went on to specialist dermatology training at the Royal London and Royal Free hospitals. Her own account of that path makes clear how much she enjoyed immunology and how strongly she values clinical research.
Sharing the knowledge.
In 2020, Mary brought her expertise to the BBC series Skin, helping people living with long-term skin conditions. Her public education work also includes skincare interviews, podcast appearances and writing about how skin conditions affect people with different skin tones.
What connects her work.
Her focus on skin of colour runs through her clinic articles and research. She has also reviewed images for the Skin Deep Project, which helps make skin disease in children with darker skin more visible. In 2025, she joined Elizabeth Arden's Dermatologist Collective to explain skincare science and address beauty misinformation.
