Mini bio
How it started.
Emily grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and began climbing at ten. Competition climbing came first. In 2005, she finished second at the world championships, building a career that would eventually take her well beyond indoor walls.
Taking it outside.
She joined The North Face athlete team in 2008 and expanded into big walls and high mountains. She summited Everest in 2012 and completed a summit and ski descent of Cho Oyu in 2016. Her work spans the patient problem-solving of sport climbing and the uncertainty of expeditions.
The Golden Gate chapter.
After free climbing Golden Gate over six days in 2015, Emily wanted to do it in a single day. On November 4, 2020, she finished in 21 hours and 13 minutes, becoming the first woman to free climb that route in under 24 hours. Alex Honnold and Adrian Ballinger supported her on the wall. Girl Climber follows the pursuit behind that ascent.
Sharing the whole life.
Emily and Adrian share their adventures and family life on their joint YouTube channel, DangerStikTV. She also speaks about fear, failure and teamwork. Her films and interviews give fans a view of the effort and relationships behind the finished climb.
