Mini bio

How it started.

Emily launched the blog on 5 March 2012 while working in a gas supplier’s call centre. A friend had suggested blogging as a way to practise writing. The early posts were diary-like accounts of holidays, written around the day job.

The turning point.

In 2014, Emily left work for five months of backpacking in South America. Afterwards, they kept writing and learning how to build a business. Their anniversary essay dates the first meaningful earnings and press trips to 2015, making clear that the change happened gradually.

Finding their own kind of adventure.

Raised in Weymouth and based in Dorset, Emily writes about solo travel, food and trying unfamiliar experiences. Their idea of adventure can be a first road trip, an overnight train or camping close to home. The emphasis is on enjoying experiences and building confidence.

Bringing it home.

Emily launched Dorset Travel Guide in February 2020. Their guidebook work includes leading the 2025 Devon & Cornwall update for Lonely Planet and contributing that region’s chapter to England and Great Britain.
