Mini bio
How it started.
Fred Gibson grew up in South London and began attending an a cappella group at Brian Eno’s studio at 16. Eno became a mentor. Fred went on to work on Eno & Hyde’s 2014 albums Someday World and High Life before building a career writing and producing for other artists.
From the studio to Actual Life.
Production work for artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and George Ezra helped earn Fred the 2020 BRIT Award for Producer of the Year. His solo work took a more personal route: Actual Life turns phone recordings, conversations and found voices into songs. A chance meeting with Carlos in Atlanta became “Carlos (make it thru)”.
Finding a shared feeling.
The 2021 debut Actual Life and “Marea (we’ve lost dancing)”, which samples The Blessed Madonna, introduced that approach to a wider audience. A London Boiler Room debut followed in 2022. Actual Life 3 later won a Grammy, while “Rumble” with Skrillex and Flowdan won another.
Room to keep changing.
Fred reunited with Eno for the ambient album Secret Life in 2023, then released ten days in 2024. Alongside those albums, USB gives his club tracks an ongoing home. In 2026 he and LATIN MAFIA released the collaborative mixtape 9 months & 50 hours after sharing its final studio sessions live online.
