Mini bio
How it started.
Levy grew up in Brooklyn and started chess at five. The game stuck: the first tournament came in January 2003. Teaching began in 2010 with a classmate, then grew into a school chess program in New York City.
Finding an audience.
Streaming began in 2018. In 2020, Levy shifted from local coaching to online content, finding a much wider audience during the pandemic chess boom and the release of The Queen’s Gambit. Lessons, tournament recaps and Guess the Elo became ways for fans to learn and follow the game.
Beyond the videos.
Levy founded Chessly in 2022, combining video lessons with interactive study, drills and quizzes. How to Win at Chess followed in 2023. The work now also includes live shows, Chess for Babies and an intermediate sequel to the first book.
