Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Bolinas and raised in Nashville, Korine was making art as a teenager before attending film school at New York University. Meeting photographer and filmmaker Larry Clark led to his screenplay for Kids, the 1995 film that brought his writing to a wider audience.
Finding his own language.
He made his feature directing debut with Gummo in 1997, followed by Julien Donkey-Boy in 1999. Later films included Mister Lonely, Trash Humpers, Spring Breakers and The Beach Bum. Across those films and his visual art, he kept returning to outsiders, strange humor and images that leave room for viewers to find their own connections.
Beyond the screen.
His paintings, photographs and collages have their own long history, including a 2017 Centre Pompidou survey. Working through EDGLRD, he has explored the meeting point of films, games and digital images. Aggro Dr1ft uses thermal imagery, while Baby Invasion borrows the viewpoint of a first-person shooter. His 2026 ICA Miami survey brought these strands together.
