Mini bio

How it started.

James grew up in Rugby and honed his voice busking in Cornwall. After moving to Derby, he caught the attention of his future manager at a pub open mic. Before signing with Polydor, his jobs included washing vans and cleaning hotel rooms.

The songs fans found him through.

“You Give Me Something” introduced him in 2006, and his debut album Undiscovered reached No. 1 in the UK. He won British Male Solo Artist at the 2007 BRIT Awards. His second album, Songs for You, Truths for Me, brought the Nelly Furtado duet “Broken Strings”. Later favourites include “I Won’t Let You Go” and “My Love Goes On” with Joss Stone.

Finding the next songs.

For his 2022 Greatest Hits album, James re-recorded familiar songs to reflect how they had grown on stage. In a 2025 interview, he described how therapy and writing with Adam James and Kjetil Mørland helped open up the songwriting for Fight Another Day. In 2026, he returned to Undiscovered with an anniversary edition and tour.
