Mini bio

How it started.

Javed Bashir grew up in Lahore in a family of qawwals. He began formal qawwali training with his father, Ustad Bashir Ahmad Khan, in 1992, and studied classical singing with Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan. That grounding still runs through his recordings and live performances.

Finding a wider audience.

Early recordings with Rishi Rich and Bally Sagoo led into his work as the voice of Mekaal Hasan Band. Sampooran and Saptak brought his classical training into a Sufi rock setting. His Bollywood playback debut came with Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re in Kahaani, followed by songs for Cocktail and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Songs to spend time with.

Fans can follow different sides of his singing through Yeh Tune Kya Kiya, the Shreya Ghoshal duet O Rangrez, and Coke Studio collaborations with Ali Azmat and Akbar Ali. His more recent releases include Jaun Elia ghazals, devotional recordings, and television soundtracks.
