Mini bio

How it started.

Mike Song and Anthony Lee met in a dance circle at freshman orientation at UC Irvine. They founded Kinjaz in Los Angeles in 2010. Song told Orange Coast that the group began as a one-time performance under the anime-inspired name ANBU Black Ops; by 2014, they were focusing their individual dance careers on a shared goal.

Finding their audience.

Kinjaz finished second on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew in 2015 and competed on NBC’s World of Dance in 2017. Their stage work grew alongside filmed choreography, including “Fear None” at Arena China in 2017.

Beyond the crew.

Their work now includes choreography and creative direction for artists, games, brands and television. They helped develop Nike’s Air Sesh with Tinker Hatfield in 2021 and performed with 88rising at Coachella in 2022. Their official channel also gives fans a close look at rehearsals and individual members’ choreography.

Passing it on.

The Kinjaz Youth Program brings dance and cinematography together for dancers ages 14–21. Its films include “Cry For Me” and “London Summers,” with direction from Jason Lin, Carlo Darang, Anthony Lee and Saaya Anzai.
