Mini bio

How it started.

Before her wellness work, Kris acted in television and commercials and ran a portrait and headshot photography business in New York City. A rare stage IV cancer diagnosis on Valentine’s Day in 2003 changed the direction of her life. She began documenting her experience on camera.

Turning the camera on herself.

The result was Crazy Sexy Cancer, which had its world premiere at SXSW in 2007. Kris brought her own experience of illness into a documentary about learning to live with uncertainty. Books followed, including Crazy Sexy Diet and Crazy Sexy Kitchen, the latter created with chef Chad Sarno.

Making room for difficult feelings.

Her work grew beyond food and physical routines to include grief, writing and meditation. I’m Not a Mourning Person came out in September 2023, drawing on her father’s death and a period of upheaval in her own life. She also founded Inner Circle Wellness and launched Made to Thrive in June 2024, bringing personal reflections and guest conversations to audio.
