Mini bio

How it started.

Before the chart singles, Lawson built a following through small gigs and YouTube covers. In a 2012 interview, drummer Adam Pitts recalled years of travelling around the country, changes of management and a spell managing themselves before their videos helped them get signed. The name honours the surgeon who saved singer Andy Brown’s life after a brain tumour.

The breakthrough.

When She Was Mine reached No. 4 in the UK in 2012. Taking Over Me followed at No. 3, and debut album Chapman Square also reached No. 4. Standing in the Dark, Brokenhearted with B.o.B and Juliet became further Top 10 singles. Their blend of pop songs and guitar-band playing carried into second album Perspective in 2016.

The return.

After a break, Lawson returned with Lovers in 2020 and released Cmd Z on 2 July 2021. It was their first album in five years and followed a deal with Cooking Vinyl. Pandemic restrictions delayed the release, but the band continued sharing songs and videos before taking the album on a UK tour that autumn.
