How it started.
Leah grew up outside St. Louis and went on to study environmental science and policy at Chapman University. While still a student, she freelanced and started Green Girl Food in January 2017, sharing sustainable food and plant-based eating through a blog and Instagram.
Finding her voice.
After working in sustainability at companies including Patagonia, Leah reached a wider audience in 2020 with an Instagram graphic reading “Environmentalists for Black Lives Matter.” She helped build Intersectional Environmentalist into a nonprofit and resource hub connecting environmental protection with racial and social justice.
From posts to books.
Her debut, The Intersectional Environmentalist: How to Dismantle Systems of Oppression to Protect People + Planet, was published on March 8, 2022. UCLA selected it for its 2022–2023 Common Experience program. Her next book, Earth as Mother, explores ecofeminism and the relationship between women and the planet; its publisher lists March 2, 2027 as the release date.
Making room for creativity.
Leah now brings ecological learning into community craft gatherings through Green Girl Crafts, with activities ranging from floral dyeing to cyanotypes. She also hosts As She Rises, whose fourth season explores rewilding.
