Mini bio
How it started.
Maleek grew up in South London, listening to R&B and pop artists including Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Jodeci and Michael Jackson. As a teenager, Maleek formed a group with friends at church and learned to produce their songs using Fruity Loops.
London meets Lagos.
In a New Wave interview, Maleek recalled making music with Davido on a family trip to Lagos in 2011 and meeting Wizkid through that circle. The partnership with Wizkid helped bring “The Matter” to life and connected South London influences with Nigerian pop.
Stepping up to the mic.
After producing for other artists, Maleek released “For My People” with Sneakbo in 2015, then the self-produced “Kontrol” in 2016. Last Daze of Summer followed through Berry’s Room. Maleek told New Wave that running the label made room for creative freedom and more vulnerable songwriting.
A longer love story.
First Daze of Winter and Isolation Room came before the 2025 debut album, If Only Love Was Enough. Across 15 songs, the album explores love and its complications, with appearances from Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Ruger and Zlatan.
