Mini bio

How it started.

A Houston native, Marianne began lecturing on A Course in Miracles in Los Angeles in 1983. In an interview with Matt Matern, she recalled how the AIDS crisis led her to organize support groups alongside her spiritual teaching.

The book that opened the door.

Her first book, A Return to Love, appeared in 1992. An appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show helped it become a bestseller and brought her reflections on love, fear and spiritual practice to a much wider audience.

Putting care into practice.

In 1989, she founded Project Angel Food as an outreach program of the Los Angeles Center for Living. It began delivering meals to people too ill to leave home. She later co-founded The Peace Alliance in 2004 and supported creating a U.S. Department of Peace.

Where fans find her now.

Her work continues through TRANSFORM, where she publishes meditations, essays and interviews, alongside online teaching. Her 2025 book Midlife Awakening revisits The Age of Miracles with new material. She also ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and 2024.
