Mini bio

How it started.

Melanie auditioned for the group that became the Spice Girls in March 1994. As Sporty Spice, she became part of the group’s 1996 breakthrough with “Wannabe” and its message of Girl Power.

Finding her own sound.

Her solo career began with Bryan Adams on “When You’re Gone” in 1998. Northern Star followed in 1999 and produced the UK number ones “Never Be the Same Again” and “I Turn to You”. After leaving Virgin, she set up Red Girl Records.

Beyond the records.

She made her West End debut as Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers in 2009 and earned an Olivier nomination. Her memoir Who I Am followed in 2022, and she joined The Voice Australia as a coach in 2025.

Back to the dance floor.

DJing helped reconnect Melanie with the dance music she loved before the Spice Girls. Sweat, released in May 2026, brings that club influence into her solo work. She told Rolling Stone Uncut that she wanted her pop songwriting and DJ sets to feel closer together.
