Mini bio
How it started.
Mike grew up in Canada fascinated by animals and studied biology at the University of New Brunswick. After graduating in 2008, he spent five years backpacking and volunteering with ocean conservation researchers, taking a camera along.
Finding a voice.
In a Tubefilter interview, Mike traced his start in video to months spent recovering from a serious foot infection. A friend encouraged him to enter a travel video competition using footage he already had. Competition wins led to filmmaking work for travel brands. His channel was originally called Kick the Grind before he renamed it Fearless & Far.
The breakthrough.
Mike built Fearless & Far around confronting fear through travel. By his 2022 Tubefilter interview, the channel had grown from about 200,000 subscribers to more than a million over the preceding two years. Fans followed him into festivals, remote communities and abandoned places, with curiosity and personal challenges tying the films together.
Beyond the channel.
He became a North American correspondent for BBC’s The Travel Show in 2017. In 2021, he began co-hosting Wondery’s survival storytelling podcast Against the Odds with Cassie De Pecol and hosting The Weather Channel’s Uncharted Adventure. The television series earned him the 2023 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Program Host.
