Mini bio
Songs from a bedroom.
Nicole Zefanya grew up in Jakarta and taught themself guitar at nine. Before the albums and tours, NIKI shared acoustic covers and original songs on YouTube as nzee24. A contest win brought an opening slot for Taylor Swift’s Red Tour in Jakarta at 15.
Finding a wider audience.
NIKI moved to Nashville to study at Lipscomb University and connected with 88rising, which released the early singles. The music grew from those home recordings into an R&B and pop catalogue, including “lowkey” and the 2020 debut album MOONCHILD. “Every Summertime” followed as a single from the Shang-Chi soundtrack in 2021.
Returning to Nicole.
During the pandemic, NIKI revisited archived YouTube songs written at fifteen, sixteen and seventeen. A studio session to re-record them for fun grew into Nicole, released in August 2022. That year also brought a Coachella appearance alongside Rich Brian, making them the first Indonesian artists to perform at the festival.
Living with the questions.
Released in August 2024, Buzz brought warm folk-rock arrangements to stories about navigating the twenties. NIKI described it as a record about accepting uncertainty. Its title grew out of gardening: the sound of bumblebees became a sign that spring and a new harvest were near.
