Mini bio

Starting with friends.

Gripp formed Nerf Herder in Santa Barbara in 1994. In interviews, he remembers a local scene where playing in a band was a way to see friends. Their funny tribute “Van Halen” reached major radio stations, helping the band get signed and tour. They also wrote and recorded the theme to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Waffles changed the direction.

After the band’s first run, Gripp returned to work at his family’s orchid nursery. A request for waffle-commercial ideas led to “Do You Like Waffles?” The rejected jingle found an audience through an animation on Newgrounds. Gripp kept making short songs and YouTube videos, turning a hobby into a second music career.

A song-sized world.

Food, animals and playful combinations became recurring subjects. “Raining Tacos,” “Space Unicorn” and “Baby Monkey (Going Backwards on a Pig)” sit alongside television work for Ask the StoryBots and The 7D. His official biography also credits him with the main title music for Hazbin Hotel. In 2021, his taco song became a picture book illustrated by Peter Emmerich.
