Mini bio
How it started.
McAfee grew up in Plum, Pennsylvania, and earned a football scholarship to West Virginia University. The Indianapolis Colts drafted him in the seventh round in 2009. Across eight NFL seasons, he became a two-time Pro Bowler and earned First-Team All-Pro recognition for the 2014 season.
A different kind of career.
He retired in 2017 at 29 to join Barstool Sports. McAfee cited repeated knee surgeries and his interest in creative work as reasons for leaving football. He stayed in Indianapolis to make podcasts, videos and other media, then launched his daily sports talk show in 2019.
The show finds its audience.
The Pat McAfee Show combines athlete interviews, sports discussion and humor with a regular crew that includes A.J. Hawk, Darius Butler, Boston Connor, Ty Schmit and Tone Digs. McAfee joined College GameDay full time in 2022, and his own show began airing on ESPN on September 7, 2023 while continuing on YouTube. His company produces the show from its Indianapolis ThunderDome studio.
Beyond the desk.
WWE gave McAfee another outlet for his love of performance. After guest commentary appearances, he made his in-ring debut against Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver XXX and joined Michael Cole on SmackDown commentary in 2021. His work also extends to live events such as Big Night AHT. Away from broadcasting, he and his father Tim operate a foundation supporting scholarships for children of U.S. military personnel.
