Mini bio
How it started.
PBS Space Time began on February 11, 2015 with Gabe Perez-Giz hosting “What Planet Is Super Mario World?” Its first question used Mario’s jumps to explore gravity. Producers Andrew Kornhaber and Eric Brown created the series for PBS Digital Studios.
A new guide to the universe.
Matt O’Dowd arrived as host on September 23, 2015 with “Does Dark Matter Break Physics?” An astrophysicist who researches black holes and quasars, he became the show’s host and writer.
A community built around big questions.
The series grew into a YouTube community of more than 3 million subscribers. Its investigations connect astrophysics with quantum mechanics, from the nature of time to black hole horizons. Matt describes his aim as sharing the best modern account of how the universe works, while making difficult ideas approachable without a physics degree.
