Mini bio
How it started.
Jacob Allen began with drums at seven, then taught himself guitar around thirteen so he could bring more of his own ideas into rehearsals. Learning to record and produce opened up another way to write. The Puma Blue name gave those songs a home beyond the singer-songwriter bills he had been playing under his own name.
Finding his people.
The South London scene helped shape the project, and the EPs Swum Baby in 2017 and Blood Loss in 2018 brought wider attention. Much of that early music was made at home. Blood Loss turns its closing track back toward the opening, making the record feel like a loop.
From the bedroom to the band.
In Praise of Shadows arrived in 2021 as the debut album, followed by the concert film A Late Night Special. Holy Waters followed in 2023, with the live band at the center of songs about love, grief and accepting death. Atlanta became Jacob’s home after South London.
Room to change.
The 2025 releases antichamber and extchamber explored quieter, stripped-back and ambient territory. Croak Dream followed in February 2026, built from tape-loop sessions at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios with co-producer Sam Petts-Davies and improvisations from the band. Its textures stretch from jazz ballads to jungle rhythms and trip-hop.

Trivia
- The name draws on the larger-than-life names of blues musicians; Jacob imagined the Puma character as part washed-up barfly, part big cat.
- “Moon Undah Water” was originally written in 2014. Its riff interpolates Midas Touch’s “Love in Triplicate”.
- antichamber includes a cover of Low’s “Shame”.
- A field recorder given to Jacob by his partner helped capture the surroundings heard in antichamber.
- Swum Baby is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire.
