Mini bio
How it started.
Rick is from Southport and began learning violin at seven, later taking up guitar while at college. Classical guitar studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music became part of a musical life that also embraced rock and fusion.
Finding an audience.
A clear early milestone came in 2011, when Rick won Guitarist magazine’s Guitarist of the Year competition at London’s Southbank Centre. Online, fans came to know his performances and detailed lessons in technique and musicianship.
On other people’s records.
Rick played the second guitar solo on Plini’s “Selenium Forest” and a guest solo on Polyphia’s “Envision”, both released in 2013. Those credits sit alongside his own music and a teaching career that, according to his Patreon introduction, began in the early 1990s.
Sharing the craft.
His teaching covers technical workouts, harmony, fretboard knowledge and improvisation. Charvel introduced his first signature guitar in 2021, followed by a second model in 2025. His lesson catalogue also gives fans a way to learn original pieces such as “I Can Feel You Breathe”.
