How it started.
Tyron Frampton grew up in Northampton and began writing rhymes after watching 8 Mile as a child. Rapping with friends through their teens helped slowthai find a voice. The independently released “Jiggle” in 2016 became an early step toward a wider audience.
Finding an audience.
The I Wish I Knew EP in 2017 and RUNT in 2018 preceded the debut album Nothing Great About Britain. Released in 2019, it brought stories of class, identity and everyday British life to a larger audience, reached No. 9 in the UK and earned a Mercury Prize nomination.
Two sides of TYRON.
The second album arrived in February 2021, split into two seven-track halves. Its louder opening side gives way to more inward-looking songs, with guests including A$AP Rocky, Skepta and James Blake. TYRON became slowthai’s first UK No. 1 album.
Making room for something new.
For UGLY in 2023, slowthai drew on teenage favorites including Nirvana and Radiohead. Songs grew from jams and live recording with collaborators including Dan Carey and Kwes Darko. The album pairs rapping and singing with a focus on self-acceptance.
