Mini bio
How it started.
At Clark University, Tara studied psychology and political science while organizing for tenants’ rights. Yoga led her toward meditation; she then spent ten years living and teaching in an ashram.
Finding her path.
An Insight Meditation retreat with Joseph Goldstein felt like coming home. She later earned a clinical psychology doctorate and completed five years of Buddhist teacher training at Spirit Rock, bringing both traditions into her work.
Reaching readers.
Radical Acceptance, published in 2003, became an international bestseller. Its focus on shame and self-acceptance remains central to her teaching. Radical Compassion later offered readers a guide to RAIN: Recognize, Allow, Investigate and Nurture.
Practicing together.
She co-founded a mindfulness teacher training program with Jack Kornfield. Fans can also follow her freely offered recorded talks and guided meditations.
